Funny, I don’t remember hearing this version, but it made me go dig up Bob’s only live performance of the song, alone on guitar and harmonica, from 5/11/76. It is, in my opinion, even more beautiful.
The version above was on the flip side of the single “Watching the River Flow”, and appeared on CD only on an Australian compilation called “Masterpieces”. It’s far superior to the version “officially” released, though without Dylan’s consent, on the “Dylan” album of 1973. Never heard the live version but would love to.
Actually, I see it is available also on a German compilation CD called “Pure Dylan”.
