But, hey — we in the West are hypocrites, with plenty of innocent Muslim blood on our hands. Who are we to condemn radical Islam for placing a great artist like Crumb in that kind of jeopardy?

What a perfectly hideous cartoon. It is not funny, it is not moving, it is just hideous. I don’t get it.
It’s an act of defiance, an act of conscience.
Well perhaps, but it’s shitty art.
Not to me — embracing perversity is part of what R. Crumb does. If he helps you see that perversity in yourself, it can be liberating, if disturbing. I find this cartoon way more thought-provoking and nuanced than the puerile cartoons published by “Charlie Hebdo”.
